Furthermore, there are some wines which currently include
the name of one of 12 'terroirs' or regions on the label in addition to
the Coteaux du Languedoc AOC. This is a hangover from an earlier system
of classification, which has a certain overlap with the climatic classifications
listed above.
The terroirs :
Cabrieres, La Clape, La Mejanelle,
Montpeyroux, Picpoul de
Pinet, Pic St-Loup, Quatourze,
St-Christol, Saint Drezery,
St-Georges d'Orques,
St-Saturnin and Verarques.

Whilst these different classifications can seem
a little confusing, they are indicative of the dynamism of the region's
winemaking. As the character of the wine produced in each specific region
or 'terroir' is defined, the producers are keen to brand this region individually.

With time we believe that the consumer will come to recognise and rely
upon for example the Pic St-Loup or La Clape
brand as his point of reference
rather than the broader Coteaux du Languedoc tag.
Most of our wines are classified as AOC wines, however we
have also included some Vin de Pays from the region. These are generally
wines which are made from a single grape variety, and which do not therefore
qualify for one of the Coteaux du Languedoc AOCs. We have included a good
selection of Chardonnay and Viognier wines that fall into this category.
Other AOC in the Languedoc region
To the West of the Coteaux du Languedoc area and yet still
within the Languedoc geographic region lies a further cluster of AOCs: Fitou, Corbiere
and Minervois to name but the largest. We do not yet
fully cover these appellations, but in the future hope to expand westwards
and down towards the Spanish border. For the
time being we include the
smaller AOCs of Limoux (left) where the white wine is
of an exceptional quality, and the sweet wines of the Muscat de Saint Jean de Minervois
appellation.
