The Languedoc is the oldest wine growing region in France. It was the ancient Greeks who first imported vines,
and the climate and geology of the area are perfectly suited to the cultivation of grapes and the production of wine. It is

analysing and describing the experience. The words that we use to describe our perception of
a wine are useful as they enable us to identify and to communicate our preferences.

The role of terroir
In France, the word "terroir" is frequently applied to food and drink,
yet it is a difficult word to translate into English. It describes something that is local,
authentic, and typical of its region, a product of the soil of a particular place. A wine
